the kicks started as a collective of different musicians, electronic & instrumentalists, that gathered together under one roof just for the fun of it, coming together and jamming at their own expense. a jam is a jam. theres no aim, no target. it is free from expectations and just like that the tapes piled up with no specific style or genre lines. whatever happens, happens is pretty much the attitude that created a label, not out of necessity but out of convenience of being free to release the more outstanding cuts recorded, regardless of their personal definition. the first release is from the curators and creators of the project, maayan nidam & alex picone. the record starts with the psychedelic tone of alice in the desert, continues to a still hypnotic yet down to earth 020 and ends with the stabbing butt shaker think about it. the next releases will continue featuring picone & nidam, joined by cool cats like aquarius heaven, san proper & cesar merveille.

if chicago and detroit are the cities in which house and techno were born and raised, it was in italy circa 1990 that this delirious party music experienced a piano-driven coming of age. so far, so spangled. but while that may be the official story, there are other italian narratives too. take francois le roy and nanni for instance - two djs and producers from southern italy for whom, in the early nineties, the likes of aphex twin, autechre and air liquide were important, alongside the machine funk of detroit and the immersive soundtracks of the ambient generation. both artists are steeped in underground club music, and their new release on shabby doll records is a fine example of tough, tech-edged house. the *crossing roads* ep features four tracks that showcase their melodic yet relentless groove, they may be based in milan, but on this record, the influence of detroit, chicago and new york runs deep.

in the 70s radio stations were a powerful force across the whole of the us, and anyone with a transistor radio had access all kinds of music. live music was another matter altogether, and unless you found yourself in a major city your nights out were limited to what the local talent had to offer. this was especially so with soul and funk acts, as mainstream rock and pop was where the money was. so for small time oklahoma soul bands such as husband and wife charles and barbara burtons groups messengers inc - and later burton inc - times were tough. however, like many purveyors of soul, tough times were no match for those with determination, persistence and a story to tell. many artists scraped enough money together to make a 45 or two on their own label, but the burtons took this to another level – they got themselves organised and released their own full length lps.

the mysterious lord of italo hooks up with il bosco on the latest hot 4 tracker from red laser. a simple and dark bassline with haunting lasers creates the bubbling imagery of a journey through manchester at night. where are we heading? to the fukin disco mate. how we getting there? in il bosco s 10 year old ford focus with the fat system g. why is the underside all crumpled? cos dj emerald beached it in tib street car park. windows down on a summers night? no, theyre broken. kid machine rocks the quickest shit i ever heard him make with this italo-electro-disco smasher. the title track to a film score that doesnt exist maybe ? this sci-fi thriller gives bass line collectors their monies worth and the beats are seriously heavy, but my favourite thing about this recording is the glittering euphoric interludes that appear twice in the track and make the whole composition complete. his strongest stuff yet. yes yes yes starion returns with another cosmic italo disco bubbler. its the soundtrack to a film set thousands of years in the future about a pimpin robot called night flanger. he makes sure all the fembots undercarriages are maintained and well lubricated when hes on a night out drinking diesel and smoking aluminium too hot to handle. too cold to hold. dirty girl is a boogie electro funk jam from il bosco. a chopped up rare as fuck record. can you find out what it is? probably. if you do and you know how to contact the artist let us know... do not miss!

r&s keep things in the family with mpia3s brother tessela dropping his debut ep for the label. since 2011, ed russell has been moulding a style of dance music as tessela that has evolved to become a distinctly futuristic animal that is equal parts rave, jungle and techno as it incorporates classic breaks into delirious new mutations. the three tracks on this ep all follow on from his superb *hackney parrot* track but evolve his sound even further. nancys pantry combines bruising kick drums and some slick editing of the think break, before plunging headlong into thundering techno. horizons percolating hi hats and rough-hewn percussion roll off repeating chords that recall the heady days of rave. gateways uncomplicated arrangement of high hats, sub bass, siren like synths and quaking kick drums rattle through the tracks chassis and club soundsystems. early supporters to the tracks include ben ufo, pariah, surgeon, pearson sound and paul woolford, testement to what might be tesselas most lethal offering yet.

a word from label boss chris farrell: this is the new one on idle hands, from us producer strategy. i first came across paul dickows work when he released a 12 inch called *world house* on his own community library label back in 2005. it blew me away. in the ensuing years my friend duncan george who promoted bristol’s best electronic music night - under_score tried on numerous ocasions to book him for a bristol date but it never quite hapened due to the usual things that go wrong in club land. in those years duncan kept in touch with paul and last year suggested to him that it might be worth sending some tracks to me, which he did at the start of 2013… add a peverelist remix and you have the tracks here before you, dub reggae informed house and psychedelic 2 step vibes.

as an artist, christian burkhardt, is not content with existing within the realms of house and techno, but is determined to further stretch its limits with his signature sound originally from heidelberg, germany, he has carved out his own unique path in production, something which perfectly evident on send the money back.

seuil is back on eklo with new sound experimentation. after using only the mpc for his last record on the label, he has decided to expand to other devices to express his feelings about modern house music. getting into modular synthesis and using two famous modern machine drums that you will perhaps recognize... but still no computer sequences in the circuit, in an attempt to make advanced and modern house music just with hardware.

kito jempere will be a new name to many with only a handful of productions and remixes under his belt but that’s the way we like to do it here and were proud to play a small part in helping introduce his production prowess to a wider audience. the st. petersburg native came to our attention following an invite for jimpster to play at one of his legendary outdoor summer parties in his home town. a friendship was born and when the brilliant demos arrived in the mail, it wasnt a hard decision to agree to release them

portugese producer, accatone, drops the a reason not to try ep via the ever on-point, hudd traxx, imprint this september, backed with a remix from house aficionado, matthew herbert. accatone aka jose reis, has been steadily evolving as an artist over the past four years, racking up a string of releases for roots & wings, apparel music, and dabit records. here he joins the hudd traxx roster, slotting in alongside the likes of rick wade, rolando, sascha dive, and dj sneak to name but a few.

at the start of the 70s, france had no petrol, but it had ideas and artists that managed to tip them into the 21st century 30 years in advance. cosmic machine compiles 20 rare tracks put together with passion and erudition by uncle o (who previously did the shaolin soul compilations) and throws together a collection of stars, a few free-spirits, and also shooting stars.

following on now from mayo soulomon, fbnm are proud to present our next release from another italian producer giorgio luceri. giorgio delivers two sumptuous house tracks here with completely opposite dispositions, the breezin balearic bliss of prophetic vibes versus the dark detroitian dissonance of woman. woman, with thudding drums and deep subs setting the picture right away. warbling synth begin to layer before the crescendo begins with fat analog stabs, rushing synth pads and airy groans. massive. detroitian. dancefloor. destroyer. lastly kai alce (ndatl muzik | atl) remixes of woman. simple but effective kzr delivers a retro house groove fitted out with lo-fi samples and old school sequenced mpc drum!

the fat dog label returns for its second outing with yet another confident four tracker designed for both the head and the feet. the proceedings begin with the sublime moonrunners. introducing contributions from new artist spooner, the production duo use their hardware to take us to the very craters with this bubbler of emotive deep techno with dissonant house touches, d link (fat dog & ny*ak) continues the basement feeling with urnogud4me, albeit at a slower tempo but still keeps the floor burning with an unsuspecting, intense voodoo-house mystery. this is raw club music. side b we head straight onto a greasy dance floor called werk. lush pads intermingle with breathy flute stabs while the building groove consistently nags attention from your feet. stop teases us back onto the slo-mo dance floor yet again with another scorching deep house groove for the hips with a subtle funk to be desired at the disco as well as the deep room. limited copies!

there is this very small but beloved festival called gratwanderung near the middle of nowhere in a stone quarry south to leipzig, germany. juno6 together with matthias speck were the choice of the festival organizers to create their very first split ep -gratwanderung musik 1. absoluteley brillant electronic stuff!

since day one, radiq has been showing an affinity for the afro-centric funkiness and carefully-honed sound design of modern days minimal music. as in many of his previous tracks, all six songs of >vida noir< has this certain kind of unyielding quality - long, hypnotic grooves with muted kick drum set the stage for more emancipated experiments in texture and sound design. on >a long hot summer break<, for example, the effect is utterly obvious as kicking its ass into gear with syncopated drums and strain of warm chords before animated vocal sample slips in like fingerprint. while deeply seductive interplay of those chugging percussion gives way to delighted horn of >a-dieu<, warm chord and acoustic guitar of >calling< is perfect example for radiq’s masterful sound and texture. >machine codes modified< has rather restrained structure for him, but tightly woven drums speaks eloquently about its carefully arranged funkiness and dance floor functionality. despite their repetitiveness, its surprising how well these productions forming cohesive solidarity as an album. presumably, it owes a lot to wide tonal vocabulary which is radiqs hallmark - these tracks has something concentrated, vivid qualities. this album sits just at the edge of the dance floor, but also performs its exceptional strength on intense home listening. dusky synth and truncated surge of bass of >vida noir< constructing something dark, before closing this album with modulated afro-acoustic guitar and deep falsetto voice (by the producer himself) of >rondo<. this album offers up an engaging and comprehensive amalgamation from the inquisitive sound by the maestro

the 12 track album was written and produced since the turn of 2013 and mixed with erol alkan at the phantasy sound, the labels own studio in london. a difficult trick to master but like carl craigs more songs about food and revolutionary art, plastikmans consumed or more recently the work of four tet, the album works as a cohesive whole rather than a disparate collection of tracks

sims & degiorgio follow up the success of machine 01 with another showcase of blistering modern techno and uplifting electronic bliss. strike aims straight for peak-time with a driving, trademark sims rhythm that only he knows how to pull off. degiorgios remix keeps it tough but adds some subtle elements in keeping with his soulful approach to music-making. degiorgios own *guardian angel* is another in his series of uniquely harmonic techno tracks that has no equivalent in dance music. another major statement from the number one techno event around. machine.

after appearances on idle hands and brstl, rhythmic theory returns to their own imprint to further explore gritty textures and mysterious moods within house and techno frameworks. where theory001 featured the somewhat soothing, melancholic tones of >echo vibe< and >omega syndrome<, this second installment comes caked in sonic muck and abrasive attitude.its not all dark and foreboding, as the graceful filter-swept key refrain of >siren song< will attest, but it takes a barrage of rasping hats and bludgeoning kicks and toms before such niceties can be foisted upon our ears. while there is an optimistic lilt to the particular notes the melody calls out, in the midst of such machismo percussion it cant help but feel emotionally ambiguous, continuing the tone set out in the first rhythmic theory releases.there is no such confusion over b side cut >genesis< from the apocalyptic boom of the opening kick to the rapid gun fire of the snare this is a track that wants to inflict damage. at the midway point the searing beat melts away as a wash of delay-riddled speech knocks you from your centre of gravity, only for the drums to come whipping back in to pick up the slack. even the sole synth note that rears its head is devoid of compassion, pulsing a creepy, robotic intonation through the clamour.

optimo trax is an offshoot label of optimo music for tracks aimed at djs/dancefloors. yes, we know there are too many record labels already, but we felt an overriding desire to start another one as so much music that didn t seem quite right for optimo music (i.e. music that was specifically designed for dancing) kept coming our way. like the parent label, optimo trax will release music by new artists and excavate forgotten classics. all four tracks were recorded in 1992. staples of jd twitchs dj sets at the timem and all tracks he still plays to this day.

spanish talented artist eduardo de la calle who release on superwax rec, mentalgroove and name a few... we loved his latest release on cadenza. its hypnotic minimal but quite musical. it reminds me early villalobos. on a side, the ranchors time is timeless hypnotic techno.on b side, both tracks are more berlin house style. they are for the fan of kink or levon vincent stuff. we are very happy with this 12inch, hope you enjoy!
